GBRC Fortnightly Race Report– 19th Oct- 1st Nov
It has been an action-packed fortnight for our Club with members shining across Parkruns, gruelling trail endurance events, and the return of the cross-country season.
Harwich Parkrun PB Bonanza- GBRC Event 17th October
The fast, flat (ish!) course at Harwich parkrun proved to be the perfect hunting ground for a PB a couple of weeks ago. In a fantastic display of form, Martin Cotton (23:27), Emma Gladden (25:31) and Ella Harris (25:48) all clocked phenomenal new PB’s. Congratulations to you all.

LDWA Essex Walker Endurance Challenge
Over in the countryside, a few club members tackled the challenging LDWA Essex Walker event, navigating tough terrain and clocking serious miles in very windy conditions!
- 26-Mile Distance: David and Lou Balfour showed incredible endurance, successfully conquering the full 26-mile marathon-distance route.
- 18-Mile Distance: Taking a faster approach, Vicky and Phil Presland, alongside Debs and Paul Hollidge, teamed up to run the demanding 18-mile route, showing great teamwork and stamina. We managed to grab a quick chat and picture with Vicky and Phil and briefly saw Debs and Paul Hollidge tackling yet another ploughed field as we turned off to join the 26-mile route! Well done Guys.

Sensational Start to NESS XC Season.
- The opening fixture of the NESS Cross Country League at Gosfield saw a fantastic turnout painting the muddy and unbelievably hilly course blue. Thanks to the determined running across both the men’s and ladies’ squads we secured a fantastic second-place finish overall.
A massive well done to everyone who raced, supported, and represented the club so brilliantly at Gosfields.

Wix 5 miles.
The popular Wix 5 Mile race saw a good turnout from GBRC with perfect racing conditions and exceptional performances from everyone.
- Gerry Gladden PB- 31:58
- Steve Bullen 33:04
- Malcolm Statham- 38:39
- Inga Hayden Cooper- 40:11
- Emma Gladden PB- 42:22
- Tonie Wilson- 44:59
- Alan Johnson- 49:59
- Gary Cooper- 01:02

And further afield!
Beyond the 5-mile distance, others travelled further afield to conquer 10k and parkrun challenges:
- Lorraine Adams put in an excellent performance at the Duxford 10k, tackling the flat runway and airfield course with great determination despite the wind finishing in 1:09
- Lisa Briggs celebrated her monumental 200th parkrun at West Stow Country parkrun. Getting into the Halloween spirit, Lisa completed the event fully dressed as a black cat and finished as 1st female and 1st feline!
- Donna Parker-Evans took on a unique challenge at the Newton parkrun in Wales, completing the 5k course while pushing her dog, Bonnie, in a pushchair.
