Running to remember

This week’s round up of parkruns sees a brand new event and a parkrun just two weeks old.

Let’s start with Colchester Castle parkrun, we had Charlie Keitch 20:12; Robin Oakley 22:02; Meera Rajoo-Oakley 25:13; Russell Clarke 25:26; Scott Young 26:57; Claudia Keitch 28:02 and Frank Gardiner 29:00.

At Clacton Seafront we had Anna Lyon 24:04; Mike Hinton 25:02; Brian Telford 25:57; Graham Clarke 27:59; Fiona Gosling 29:56; Stewart Baggs 37:23 and Peter Reeve 38:00.

At Harwich parkrun we had Mark Jasper 18:24; Simon Leggett; 19:15; Joshua Melville-Jackson 20:00; Richard Moor 21:26; Inga Hayden-Cooper 22:45 and Gary Cooper 31:30.

At Highwoods parkrun we had a good Bentley Blue turnout with Ryan Day 18:28 (1st); Paul Connell 20:46; Vicky Presland 23:51; Malcolm Jarvis 25:11; Tomasz Komorowski 26:04; James Royce 26:05; Darren David 28:00; Deborah Hollidge 28:41; Paul Hollidge 28:42; Charlotte Hammond 33:29; Brody Wakeling 36:18 and Emma Wakeling 36:32 running here.

Alton Water parkrun is now two weeks old. Teresa Farmer ran here this week in 33:53.

The new kid on the block is Markshall Estate parkrun, an estate near Coggeshall. Last week a few Blues ran event 0 to test it out. This week we had Craig Mitchell 19:09; Martin Owen 22:53 and Helene Tyler in 28:14.

Rob Blackman ran Kesgrave parkrun in 19:21.

Brody Wakeling wasn’t happy with just the one parkrun this weekend, he went over to Clacton and ran the junior event on Sunday in 10:07, extremely close to his PB! Well done Brody!

This Sunday was the marking of 100 years since the nation’s collective Remembrance traditions were first brought together. Many races this weekend focused on this. The Here and Tortoise Remembrance event was a 6 hour endurance lapped event raising money for a Armed Forces charity, the link will tell you more https://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2021-11-14/remembrance-sunday-race-to-raise-money-for-colchester-military-charity Yolande Arnold, John Bush, Sammy Cotton, Belinda Palmer-Barnes, Dave Jones, Bev Shortley, Leoni Harvey ran a variety of distances ranging from 10k to half marathon.

Stebbing 10 mile is a undulating race held by Grange Farm and Dunmow Runners traditionally starting after the two minute silence at 11am. Jonathan Mann ran home in 1:05:33; David Balfour 1:06:05; Hien Hoang 1:27:56; Adrian Cherry 1:28 23; Louise Balfour 1:42:43 and Alison Clarke in 1:42:50.

We had an excellent result at the Stowmarket Scenic 7 mile race, where the men’s team brought home 3rd team. Doug McGillivray ran home in 4th, Richard Heath 12th and Craig Mitchell 32nd.

On Saturday there was a Remembrance run at Debden airfield, which offered a variety of distances ranging from 5km to a marathon. Magdalena Komorowska ran the half marathon in 1:48:56 and Rob Dyer ran the metric marathon (26.2km) in 2:02:53.

A shout out to Sue Wray who, last week, ran her 100th parkrun in Norfolk at Holkham. She then ran her first self navigated half marathon along with Helene Tyler at Elmstead Navigational half trail the next day. Well done to you both.

We also have a PB to celebrate from Billericay 10k. Louise Balfour ran the undulating course in 58:34. She was joined by Inga Hayden-Cooper 48:01; Bev Shortley 51:06; ; David Balfour 49:50; Scott Young 50:28; Claudia Keitch 56:29; Don Welsh 1:04:01 and Gary Cooper 1:12:04.
