Parkrun is the name of the game

The prize for Parkrun tourism this week goes to Sharon Metcalf, where some of us feel that getting up on a Saturday morning and driving to the likes of Maldon, Ipswich or Chelmsford counts as good tourism Sharon decided that Rotorua Parkrun in New Zealand would be a great place to take in. She found that the set up is pretty identical to our local CCPR with a race director and friendly marshals and runners with lots of tourists from France, Australia and UK who commented on her superb GBRC top. The course itself was mostly shingle and included a run over the steaming sulphur lake! All this and some superb scenery (which required a stop to take in its beauty) saw Sharon finish the 5k in 35.39.new-zealand[Scenery at the Rotorua Parkrun – I can see why stopping and taking this is was required!]

Closer to home the various local Parkrun events saw our blue vests spread around taking in Basildon, Mersea, Colchester, Harwich and Ipswich this weekend. Matt Jones took in his 20th location for a Saturday morning 5k ending up at Christchurch park in Ipswich where his consistent running was seen again with a time of 21:40. Two runners Jack Wicks (31:37) and Louise Upston (31:52) ran at Basildon whilst for blue vest were seen at both Harwich and Mersea. Toni Wilson (23:45) was the first blue over the line at Harwich followed by Cheri Hopkins (29:36), Belinda Palmer-Barnes (28:10) and just a week after some surgery John Bush (31:02). Charlie Keitch (20:20) had an 8th place finish at Mersea flouted by Lee Clarkson (22:10), John Booty (23:06) and Ben Finken (23:21) running with his pug Janice.

The two most popular destinations remain Colchester Castle and Clacton Seafront; firstly at Colchester where David Wright recorded a fifth place finish in 18:37 he was followed up the hill by Rich Moor (20:26), Kevin Stevens (21:24), Malcolm Jarvis (21:27), Debs Cubberley (26:49), Paul Hollidge (26:50), James McCullough (26:50) and Claire Groves (32:36). Running in the Green of Colchester Harriers Milly Presland was the first lady home on Saturday in a super speedy 22:04 – great running Milly!

Finally, in the Saturday Parkrun round up is the Clacton seafront where our final nine runners were out with Dave Goldsmith (19:51) finishing on the podium in 2nd place. Following Dave home were Patrick Reynolds (21:22), Kevin James (22:39), Brian Telford (24:54), Rebecca Conran (27:25), Alison Clarke (30:12), Rob Thorpe (33:06), Davina Swindell (35:11) and Claire Reynolds (38:58).

This weeks marathon for Paul Blackwell was the Disney marathon being the 113th 26.2 that Paul has now run.  Its not the first time that Paul has completed the Disney marathon but this year did see a new course introduced.
