Ladies Newsletter September 2016

Hi ladies, what a lovely September we have had! Warm and sunny, plus some great racing too! There was an excellent turnout at both Langham and Dedham 10k races, as well as multiple half marathons and park runs too.

Sarah Fletcher ran both the 5k and 10k events at Langham, and then went on to PB at Dedham, despite all those many, vaguely counted hills. Claire Groves was our female representation at the Great North run, and Kim Chatting was the Bentley babe running a race the furthest away this month, at the Jussy ‘Heaven and Hell’ half marathon in Switzerland. Caroline Searle completed the Dunstable Downs 20 mile challenge as part of her marathon training, bagging herself a place on the club champs table for the distance. Lorna Sharp and Alison Clarke took part in the Blackwater Charity Triathlon, where Lorna was 6th lady home.

If you haven’t already, get your name down to run Wix 5 on 16th October. This is always a big race for the club, and so the club pays for your entry. No need to enter online, just email Paul Carlisle. Come early, we have a group photo taken before the start; last year’s is the cover photo on both the website and Facebook page. It’s a good course, some undulations but no real hills, good chance of running a pb!

Just a few more road races now, and then we will be well and truly into cross country season. If you’ve never tried cross country before, come and give it a go! I won’t lie, it is cold, muddy and often rainy, but great fun, again the club pays for your entry and loads of coffee and cake afterwards! How often do we get a chance to splash through muddy puddles as adults? The more who turn out, the better our chances of keeping our place in the league, or even moving up a bit! So break out those trail shoes or spikes and come and embrace the mud.

Also remember at the end of this month we have 2 club events; the last of Rodger’s trail runs, which takes place after dark, and is a 5 miler in the Clacton area. Keep your eyes on the website for more details nearer the time! The other big event is our own 10 mile race, to be held in Great Bromley on the 23rd October. This will be just for ourselves and Harwich Runners and is free to enter. If you don’t fancy running it, but still want to come along and your clubmates on, then please consider volunteering to marshal. As per usual for a Bentley event, there will be cake afterwards!

Now on to Runner of The Month. This lady only started running just under a year ago, but has taken such huge strides since then. Her running has gone from strength to strength, and she has been gradually increasing her endurance as she prepares for her first marathon next month. Her enthusiasm for running knows no bounds, and she is rarely seen without a smile. In September, she ran a PB and gained a Bronze standard and Langham, ran Parkruns, and also completed 5 3.8 mile laps at the Roald Dahl run. Yes, it is Rebecca Conran!

Now the nights are sadly drawing in, please take care out there in the dark. Make sure you are wearing hi vis at all times, and head torch too if running on unlit areas.

See you all soon!
