At the Colchester Castle Parkrun on Saturday, Sam Godden was 7th lady in 25m 41s, her first Parkrun and first race since recovering from serious illness last year. Scott Young took 23m 25s, Mark Crittendon 28m 44s, and Martin Owen, pacing a friend took 36m 00s.
Several Blue Vests took part in the Essex Cross Country Championships at Hilly Fields, also on Saturday. The undulating course was very muddy and waterlogged in places due to the recent heavy rain, and consisted of two 2.5 miles laps for women and three for the men. Emily Zethraeus was placed 35th in the senior women’s race in 37m 17s. She was followed by Anna Mills 42m 04s, Lorna Sharp 45m 05s, Davina Swindell 46m 17s, Lex Carlisle 47m 25s, Sue Sorrell 49m 31 and Emma Town 49m 46s.
In the men’s race, first GBRC runner was Ben Ficken, 89th, in 51m 31s, then Dave Goldsmith 51m 33s, Michael Simmons 52m 07s, Kevin Stevens 52m 25s, Tom Fowler 56m 02s, John Booty 56m 20s, Malcolm Jarvis 56m 38s, Mark Ross 57m 32s, Paul Carlisle 58m 05s, Ed Brennan, racing for the first time, 58m 17s, John Dixon 59m 54s and Shawn Leek 63m 03s.
