All quiet on the racing front

It was an eerily quiet weekend when it came to racing (perhaps everyone was saving themselves for the final XC of the season at Hadleigh this coming Sunday), but that didn’t stop plenty of you getting out and enjoying some of our local parkruns.

GBRC was represented at seven separate parkruns and you can see the full consolidated club results on the parkrun website.

Some of the highlights included:

  • All three of the Wakeling clan conquering Highwoods with Laci and Brodi both completing their tenth parkrun;
  • Martin Owen visiting Clacton seafront for the first time and finishing in 23:39 despite the ‘disgusting headwind’;
  • Larina Marsh, also at Clacton seafront, completing a course PB despite the conditions;
  • and Bee Brent making similarly short work of the wind to take another 50 seconds off her post lockdown PB, again at Clacton seafront.

A special mention must also go to Matt Knowles who continued his journey back from injury by completing Chelmsford Central parkrun in 34:03. Many of our newer members may not know Matt, but he’s a great runner, a nice bloke, and an XC stalwart who has been out of action for a good few years now. It is great to see his name on the results sheets again. Well done, Matt.

Why just run 5k on a Saturday morning?

Running slightly further than 5km were Paul Davison, Rob Dyer and Tomasz Komorowski who didn’t let a lack of preparation (their words, not mine) stop them from completing a whopping 85km at the Long Distance Walking Association’s Winter Poppyline event. The trio completed the course in 11hours and 57 minutes and even had enough left in the tank for a sprint effort.  Top work!

Finally, Leoni Harvey rounded off the weekend’s action at the London Winter Run, where she ran the 10km course in a fantastic 56:47.
