The one where it was Christmas

Whilst I was tucked up in bed appreciating not being woken up at 4am by young children desperate to open presents, so many of you took to starting the day with a 5K at your local or not so local parkrun. Harwich had the best blue turnout that it’s seen for a while, probably due to a migration from Clacton as they weren’t running over the holiday. Mark Jasper led the way in 18:41 in 3rd place and was followed by Harry S (18:48), Joshua MJ (20:06), Rich Moor (22:10), Malcolm J (23:44), Inga (24:26), Darren D (25:37), Dave J (29:08) and Gary C (32:22).

Colin and Teresa F went to Alton Water finishing in 27:01 and 35:35 respectively. Rob Dyer was at Ipswich (23:10), Simon Leggett finished in 21:58 at Great Notley and Martin Owen finished in 38:26 at Banbury. Wixy also wandered a bit further afield completing Prospect parkrun in Reading in 29:48 with new wife Louise. Congrats BTW!

Returning closer to home we report a pretty decent turnout at Colchester Castle. Charlotte Hammond was the first of us to cross the line in 30:24 and was followed (joined) by Caroline S and Marion (30:25), Bee (32:56), Stewart Baggs (38:47) and Dave Nugent (1:07:00).

The hills of Highwoods oddly tempted the most of us this wet Christmas morning with 12 of us tackling the mud. Paul D finished 4th in 21:40 followed by Martin Steinwand (25:22), Vicky and Phil P (25:41), Daniel Whymark (26:24), Paul H (26:30), Mags and Tomasz (27:51), Kathy (29:51), Debs (29:53) and Sam Cotton and Helene (49:12). A special mention must go to Tomasz and Mags for completing it dressed like this. Pretty impressive in that mud!!!

I can’t find a full list of results from Sundays Runners vs Riders at Friday Woods so apologies to anyone I’ve missed. It looks like it was a pretty muddy one and Anna and Tomasz had a great time playing in it.

We decided to extend this weeks race report to include Monday 27th December as the week had been pretty quiet on the race front. We were spoilt for choice with 3 local races to choose from. 3 of us headed to the track at the Northern Gateway. Michelle and Debbie took on the 10k race whilst Claire opted for the Duathlon.

A few of us went to Witham for the (not) Boxing Day 5. Speedy pants Ryan Day definitely beat the pud finishing in 4th place in 26:40. He was followed by Paul D (33:10), Mags (36:53), Tomasz (37:30), Caroline T with a new PB (40:01), Sarah D (41:42), Kathy (41:46), Bee (50:16), me with a PW (53:49) and John Bush (1:00:01).

A lot of fun seemed to be had at Craig’s Twixmas trail. A load of us took on the 4 or 8 mile route with Charlie and Paul Connell coming first.

Merry Christmas everyone!
