Ladies Newsletter February 2018

Well we’ve officially left Christmas in the dust as February has flown by, leaving us with the Beast from the East. Unfortunately, the snow, ice and freezing temperatures have interrupted our training this week, but there will be a social run tomorrow (Sunday) at Hilly Fields in Colchester. Meet and park at the usual time at Sussex Road, (off Lexden Rd) and wear trail shoes as it’s off road.

Now onto the running. The beginning of the month saw yet another cold but successful GBRC half marathon day with what had to be a record amount of cake made. Everyone did a fantastic job of marshalling, organising and cheering and we have had nothing but praise from those who took part.

Another high point for us this month has been cross country – the penultimate race has left us in a great position in Pool A, so let’s keep it up for the last one of the season with as big a turn out as possible. Let’s do our level best to retain our place in Pool A. Special mention to Charlie, Connor and Angel Jasper for cheering everyone up the massive hill at Hadleigh – it was encouragement well needed.

The ladies’ cross country meal has been and gone already this year, a bit on the early side, but a great time was had by all. We have not yet voted on women’s cross country runner of the year, since the season is not yet over; we will be doing this by email once the last 53-12 race is run.

The date for the first of Rodger’s trail runs is now on the website; a nice 5 miler on April 15th from Tendring Village Hall.  Last week we had a great introduction to trail running from Meera and Luke, which was brilliant fun with hot food and drinks afterwards. Many thanks go to them for organising it all, a lot of work goes into these events.  I couldn’t find a picture from the trail run with only ladies in it, so had to use this one with Paul in it.

Don’t forget that the captain positions for both men and women are currently open. Meera Rajoo Oakley is our current (female) front runner for women’s captain, so please show your support for her by coming along to the AGM on the 28th March and voting.  If you can’t make the AGM, you can vote by email to Paul Carlisle.

Finally, our runner of the month and this one goes to our very own coach, Caroline Searle. This month she has gained two bronze standards at Stockport Half Marathon and Tarpley 20 respectively, the latter putting her in the lead for the 20-mile Club Champs. She also gained a massive PB at Tarpley, putting her training for London bang on track. Well done Caroline!
