Ladies Newsletter July 2017

Well, it’s been a very busy month, to say the least! Mickey Edwards final, our 5 miler, Geoff Day and Ekiden all falling hot on each other’s heels, keeping us busy with the cake baking, let alone the running!

We had great feedback from the runners at our Friday 5, lovely comments regarding the friendly and supportive marshals. We have developed a really good reputation around our races, and it is thanks to all our members who turn up and marshal, keeping the runners safe and encouraging them on their way. Without you, we would not be able to put on these races which help the club to provide all it does for us.

The Mickey Edwards series has been well supported this year, with so many people taking part. I know Chris has been really pleased about this. Massive congratulations go to Magdalena Komorowska, Amy Young and Anthea Colsell, who came first, second and third respectively, women dominating the series!

Congratulations also go to Vicky Presland, Meera Rajoo-Oakley and Geraldine Springett who were the first three ladies at the Geoff Day Memorial 5k, Vicky winning the ladies trophy for the third year running!

Thanks to all for turning out and supporting this excellent club event, and following it up with some great in-house competition at Ekiden, where Chris put together some well-matched teams for our own ‘race within a race’! It was another hot day, as much of the month has been, but we were undeterred!

Coming up this weekend is our Anniversary Celebration on Saturday 5th August on the green and in the Football Club. Starting at 2pm, Russ is organising a Superstars style event for us, while Linzi is arranging some fun and games for the children. There will be a hog roast at 5pm, and the Football Club bar will be open. Please support the Football Club by buying a few drinks from them rather than bringing your own. They will have a reasonable range of bottled beers and ciders, plus wine, prosecco and spirits. We will have some music going into the evening too. Fingers crossed the weather will be good!

Please note, there will be no organised Sunday run the next day!

The next Rodger’s Trail Run will be held on Sunday 20th August at Newbourne Village Hall, IP12 4NP and will be approximately 13 miles. Hopefully I will see lots of you there.

Runner of the Month. Well who else could it be? Eight and a bit marathons in 9 days – let’s just call it 9 marathons, shall we? And we all know she would have run all 10 days if she could have! What an achievement, consistent running despite the varying terrain, and having to borrow bigger running shoes to accommodate her swelling feet! Well done Gemma Colling, a well deserved Runner of The Month!
