On Sunday 41 Gt Bentley runners travelled to Hadleigh for the 4th fixture of the season.
The combined men’s and ladies’ team achieved 3rd place in the fixture, moving the club from 4th to 3rd in the league, now just ahead of Springfield Striders.
The men’s race numbered 156 runners with Bentley finishing 4th in the team event, 2 places up from the previous fixture at Halstead, with Ipswich Jaffa 1st.
Dave Wright led the way for Bentley, finishing in a great 15th. He was followed by Russ Sharpe (19th), Chris Warren (23rd) and Charlie Keitch (39th ), also making a superb leap of 46 places on the Halstead race. Ben Ficken (44th), Mark Jasper (72nd), Malcom Jarvis (77th) and Rodger Alexander (80th) completed the scoring 8, with Jarvis and Alexander both achieving big improvements of 43 and 31 places respectively from the previous fixture. The race was won by Robert Chenery of Ipswich Jaffa.
Other big performances came from Graham Semple (91st), improving 30 places on his last outing at Harwich, with Patrick Reynolds (128th) and Martin West (140th) improving 45 and 67 places respectively on the previous fixture. Good season debuts came from Graham Clarke (121st) and Gary Hill (145th).
The ladies’ race fielded 75 competitors with the Bentley team also finishing 4th. The scoring team of 4 were led home for the 4th time this season by Vicky Presland in 4th. Meera Rajoo-Oakley (15th) had a great run, improving by 9 places and from 4th to 2nd team scorer from the previous fixture. She was followed by Anna Mills (25th) and a promising season debut from Chusa Bautista (39th). The race was won by Laura Thomas of Ipswich Jaffa.
Strong supporting runs came from Karen Skene (44th), Geraldine Springett (53rd), Anthea Colsell (55th) and Barbara Law (69th), all with double figure place improvements on their previous runs.
Encouraging season debuts came from Pauline Burrows (70th), Louise Reeves (72nd) and Helene Tyler (73rd).
In the supporting 2 kilometre junior race Gt Bentley fielded a team of 9 runners and repeated their 9th team place, retaining 8th position in the league. Milly Presland led the way, finishing 24th and 2nd in her age category, also improving 8 places on her last outing at Harwich in November. She was followed by Michael Oates (43rd), (who also improved from 11th to 6th in his age group). Harrison Leek (65th) and Daniel Day (89th) improved by 9 and 4 places respectively on the previous fixture. Tommy Colsell (90th) completed the scoring 5 with a good season debut. Other strong season debuts came from Alex Hill (91st) and Holly Colsell (97th), with Megan and Caitlin Hughes (98th and 99th) also running well. The race was won by Tom Rehal of Tiptree with Colchester Harriers 1st scoring team.
Great Bentley will be returning to action at the 5th and penultimate league fixture of the season at the new venue of Writtle College, hosted by Springfield Striders on February 14th.
