Men’s Newsletter – December

Dear Gents,

Happy New Year to you all!

Our XC season is well under away now after 2 more races in December, we had 23 and 25 men with 2 and 1 Juniors respectively for Harwich and Halstead, we currently have 15 Men now halfway to a “I did them all” medal, which if you’ve not had one before is much better than any road race medal, so if you can complete the next 3 its a worthy prize to display.

As for league position the club are sitting well in 4th overall and dare I say it, us Men are slightly out performing the ladies this term, with a fantastic 3rd place at Halstead, finishing with a score of 306 and ahead of Harwich by 2 points, so every last push you can give to that finish line really does count, regardless of if you score or not the more we have out there running the better and with tea and cake to look forward to what more could you want.

This year’s awards ceremony brought some well deserved prizes to Clive Thomas (Vet of the year), Ben Ficken, (Most improved), Michael Simmons (XC runner of the year), Charlie Keitch (Best Newcomer), Rodger Alexander (Club person), Rob Thorpe (Micky Edwards) and the amazing Keith Scrivener for Best performance of the year, which thoroughly deserved the standing ovation he received.

Further congratulations to all who received club championship awards, XC medals, Micky Edwards t shirts and to Kevin Stevens, Michael Simmons and Ben Ficken on gaining a place to run the London Marathon.

I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to setting new running goals and pb’s in the new year, the Bentley Half Marathon is fast approaching so if you haven’t already, and can help out to marshal please let Paul or Clive know, the more we have to marshal the more Bentley members can run the race.

Finally to runner of the month and for me there is a new talent fast emerging in the club, this young man has run in all 3 XC races, improving with everyone and recently shaved 2 minutes off he’s park run pb, which now stands at 27:13, and all this dressed as Batman! I’m just waiting to see if Dad can now squeeze into Robin’s costume to complete the family double act!

Harrison Halstead-1

Congratulations and well done to Harrison Leek runner of the month for December.
