An outstanding 76 blue vests turned out for the Wix 5 mile ARC championship race today, many gaining new personal bests on this pleasant course. Heavy rain preceded the race, but the sun came out for the start, and continued to shine for the duration. Club captain Clive Jones said the runner of the day was Keith Scrivener, 71, running his first race since he suffered a devastating stroke in 2012, followed by a broken leg last February. Keith, who has run a total of 146 marathons since taking up running in his forties, ran 13 marathons in the first 6 months of 2012 and intends to run the London marathon next year, having deferred his good for age place from 2013. Barbara Law accompanied Scrivener round the course, and many club members lined the finish to cheer him over the line.
