The first event to report this week was Fridays Ickworth House Sunset Chase starting at 7pm. It looks like there weren’t too many blue’s in attendance with Paul Davidson waving the blue flag for us all. Despite being a bit lonely, he managed to complete the course in 42:17 bagging 10th place. Despite his speedy time, it doesn’t look like he beat the sunset.
You were all pretty busy at parkrun this week. As has become the norm, Clacton saw the biggest turnout again with Mark Jasper leading us home in 2nd place with 18:38, followed by Dave Goldsmith (21:26), David Balfour (24:27), Dave Jones (28:19), Louise Balfour (28:22), Michelle Auer with a new PB (28:57), Kevin James (30:00), Claire Reynolds (30:53) and Sandra James (46:48).
Malcolm Jarvis was the sole Blue at Highwoods this week finishing 4th in 20:25 and Martin Owen was also on his lonesome at Ipswich finishing in 28:58.
Mark Harris was the first blue home at Harwich (27:28) followed by Stephen Walsh (28:14) and Donna Harris (29:53).
Colchester Castle was attended by 4 of us with Paul Connell leading the way (20:32), Russell Clarke (23:27), Brody Wakeling (35:52) and Emma Wakeling (36:12).
We also had a bit of parkrun tourism. Helene did Great Notley in 32:53. Rob Blackman went to Chilton Fields completing it in 20:25 and scooping 4th place to boot. Bee did Leamington Spa in 30:34 and Daniel Whymark did Barrow in Cumbria in 24:11.
Sunday was a really busy day on the race calendar with a few people taking on big events. Patrick Reynolds and Janine Simpson completed the Great North Run in 1:51:25 and 2:22:26 respectively. This may well have been a PW for Marathon super woman Janine but after a lack of training due to injury she’s still a super hero just getting round and retains her cape.
A few of us went to Brighton to take on their Marathon. It was a well organised event with plenty of water and gels but unfortunately that organisation couldn’t quite stretch to getting the course distance right so we ended up running an extra 568 metres. Just what we needed! Emma Welham was an absolute trooper, despite struggling on the run up to race day, she finished strong in 5:56:29. Myself and Dave Jones pretty much died somewhere on route, finishing in 5:13:53 and 5:21:45. Craig Warriner was strong as ever despite the heat and finished in an impressive 4:03:51.
A few of us raced closer to home. We’ll start with the closest which was the Layer 10K. This race was pretty well attended by the club with our Bentley lads grabbing the top 3 places – 1. Paul Connell (43:19) 2. Paul Davidson (44:40) 3. David Wright (45:01). Not one to be outdone by the guys, Sarah Davidson was 2nd female in 54:53. The other Bentley representations were David Balfour (55:53), Louise Balfour (1:06:54) and Helene (1:15:17)
5 Blues went to Takely to take on their 10K. Charlie Keitch raced home in 40:06 bagging 8th place followed by Mags (47:18), Scott (51:50), Claudia (53:30) and Frank (56:03). Claudia deserves a special mention for her PB and also for the amazing improvements she’s made since I first met her in April. Girl, you are on fire!
Like that wasn’t enough to keep us all busy, 3 blues went to Ingatestone to run their 5 Mile race. Ryan Day took 2nd place in 28:00 gaining himself a 5 star award. Inga finished in 42:47 and Gary C in 56:42.
I’m now going to bed to sleep. Night Night zzzzz
