Surely it can’t be December yet?
We have had the 2nd and 3rd 53-12 cross country events this month, and as always , you ladies have shown up and pulled out all the stops, keeping us off the bottom of the table and putting us in a strong position half way through the series. I suppose we can give the men some of the credit…
The next event is on the 10th December at Gosfield School, it’s a great course, hilly, woody and muddy! Sometimes there is even a little lake to wade through! Much more interesting that Abbey Fields, plus, the ever present cake at the end. I’m hoping to come along, might even run this one! I look forward to seeing lots of you there, let’s keep the Bentley flag flying.
Some of you have had a lovely running weekend in Cyprus this month, running races every day in the sunshine. I hear everyone ran well, beating previous course records and storming up hills. Maybe we should make this a club event? Going almost to the opposite extreme, a good-sized group set off to conquer the Six Dales this month as well, with everyone returning safely and in good time. And it looks like it was fun!
Training sessions have been going well, there was a good turnout for Caroline’s 5k time trial on Friday, plus we had Craig’s bootcamp to tone us up on Wednesday. Tomorrow’s run is from Brightlingsea, meeting at the car park near Bateman’s tower and café. Next week we have hills on Monday, a modified paarlauf session on Wednesday and out-and-back at Abbey Fields on Friday.
In case you haven’t heard, on the 20th December, which is our last Wednesday session before Christmas, we will be having a ‘Christmas lights and Fish ‘n’ Chips’ run. We will begin with a short run around the Christmas lights of Great Bentley, finishing at the fish and chip van. We will take our fish and chips back to the hall to scoff them. There is talk of beer too! If you want to join in, please comment with your order in the Facebook event, or you can email me. We need to let the van know our order before the day so they don’t run out!
Sadly there is to be no Apple Trail run this year, bit of a shame as a lot of us have enjoyed it in the past. However, there will be Runners vs Riders on Boxing Day at Friday Woods.
Not running related I know, but if you have nothing to do next weekend, pop along to the Christmas Tree Festival at Great Bentley church and feast your eyes on our club tree! Decorated with glittering medals, and topped with a Bentley Babe angel, complete with club vest and snazzy leggings, it’s certainly worth a look!
And so to Runner of The Month. This lady ran her first half marathon back in September, bagging herself a gold standard in the process. She also ran a gold standard time at Wix in October, and then this month she was third in her age group at Snetterton half marathon. A really good couple of months, congratulations Kathy Bishop!
