Looking through our reports it’s been a fairly quiet month, Paul Blackwell of course ran a marathon, an unusual trail half took place in Rendlesham, in which Ben Ficken finished 2nd, Matthew Jones continued his good form with a 5th place finish in the viper 15 trail run. Charlie Keitch took on both 5k and 10k at Ipswich, in which Phil Presland secured another Bronze standard.
Also at Ipswich, The man for all races Frank Gardiner achieved a top 10 place in his age category along with an improvement of over a minute on the same race last year. Add 2nd place at Mersea 5 and a competive XC 10k at Hadleigh earlier in the month and you can’t help admire this man’s appetite for racing.
Mersea proved to be a hot race, Ben, James Mccullagh, John Cooke and Eric Shaw ran the 10 with Eric having to pull out halfway as the heat took its toll. Well done to all who have raced this month, September brings the local 10k’s and half marathon’s to our area which I’m sure many of you are in training for so I look forward to reading all about your success as the month unfolds.
We celebrated the clubs 30th anniversary this month, great to see so many of you on the green, with your families taking part in the superstars event, children’s games, and providing a banquet we have become experts in providing over the years. I had to leave early for work so missed out on a piece of what looked a lovely cake specially made for the occasion.
The 4th instalment of this year’s trail run series had a dramatic ending for current champ Charlie, who unfortunately miss read the final instructions, and failed to complete the course, which he was honest enough to admit. This just goes to show trail events are great levellers as pace does not guarantee success like it does on the road? With one race to go Both Paul C’s and Malcolm Jarvis are well positioned to take the trail run crown. The final instalment will take place on a Wednesday evening on October 25th.
Bentley’s annual gala event is beginning to get closer now, so please do contact Karen Skene for tickets, this year it will be on the 25th November, and once again will be at Wivenhoe House.
Keep your eyes out for the Wix 5 mile race email from Paul, the event is on October 15th, as usual the club will be paying for everyone wishing to run so please don’t enter, just reply to the email.
And of course Congratulations to the Groves family on the birth of baby Noah, I’m sure it won’t be long before another buggy joins the park run gang.
Over the last few months this guy has been pushing hard in events and was a contender last month, his form is on the up, he has achieved a sub 6 minute mile, ran a great time at the Hooky 6 and with a 5th place, sub 2 hour 15 mile trail run has really mixed it up along with numerous park run events in which he has now attended 24 different courses and closing in on his 50th in total. I have a lot of faith in Matthew’s ability and can only see a constant progression of pb’s for him to look forward to. Congratulations to Matthew Jones Runner of the Month.
