Ladies Newsletter June 2017

Another month has gone rolling past, and we are about to enter a very busy month for GBRC, with events galore to prepare for and enjoy.

Over the next couple of weeks we have the final Mickey Edwards, the Friday 5 race, Geoff Day memorial 5k, plus Ekiden and our 30th Anniversary celebration at the start of August!

The final Mickey Edwards is this very Wednesday evening. This event has been so well supported by you all; I know Chris is really pleased with the amount of runners who have taken part every week. I think there have been almost as many runners on the lanes of Great Bentley as there have been bikes on the green!

Following that, on Friday (7th) we have our Friday 5 event, the last race of the series, and this year we have sold out, which is really great news, and something that has not happened for a long time. There are still spaces for both the junior events though, and remember, GBRC runners’ children run for free as long as you enter them in advance. You should all have received an email from me which explains everything you need to know if you are marshalling for us. Please let me know if you didn’t receive it! It’s also on Facebook. Our races have a great reputation for both the extremely friendly and helpful marshals, and also the cake sale afterwards! Please help us to maintain this by baking something, sweet or savoury, or making a few sandwiches we can sell to the hungry runners afterwards. As always, we truly do appreciate everyone’s help and support.

With barely a chance to draw breath after the 5, we have the Geoff Day memorial 5k the following Wednesday (12th). This is a club member’s only event, where you could win a trophy! There will be food afterwards, namely Luke Groves’ famous pulled pork (vegetarians will be catered for too!). However, once again it wold be lovely if we all contribute some sides and desserts to supplement this! In order to avoid an overdose of sausage rolls, we ask that if your surname begins with a letter from A to M, could you please bring a sweet item, N to Z please bring something savoury. The Geoff Day is always a great social event; you won’t need any dinner when you get home!

We then have the Ekiden event the Sunday after, (16th) where we will be competing not only against the other clubs, but also our own, in house, Ekiden challenge against each other. May the best team win!

A final reminder that we will be holding our 30th Anniversary celebration at Great Bentley Football Club on Saturday 5th August. It will be a family fun day, with fun and games on the green, a hog roast and a bit of music and a few drinks from the Football Club bar. If you are planning to come and haven’t already done so, please click ‘going’ in the Facebook event, or email me.

Ok, that is going to be all for this month, apart from wishing continued good luck to Gemma Colling, who is currently almost half way through her 10 marathons in 10 days challenge.

My Runner of The Month this month goes, of course, to Debs Cubberley, who ran an inspirational 100 miles or thereabouts over 4 days on the Cotswold Way. Prior to that, she had run in the HR24 event, and followed Cotswold Way up with a pb at Framlingham 5. She didn’t stop there…Bury 5, Colchester Castle parkrun, and Mersea Round The Island race followed! So, I really do think she deserves to be June’s ROM!
