A stonking 63 Blue Vests turned out on Sunday 19th October to compete in the 10th Wix 5 mile road race. After a rainy start, the clouds cleared and the sun shone, making very good running conditions despite some wind at the start. PBs and club standards were achieved and prizes were won as runners improve race on race. The ladies took the team prize, with Vicky Presland (34:22), Sam Godden (36:00,PB) and Sophie Apps (37:49) running to victory. Presland also took first place in her age group F35, while Godden gained her first club standard, a gold. Apps’ time was also a silver standard. Steph Horner was second in the F35 age group in 38:49, a Pb and gold club standard. Both first and third place in the F45 age group were taken by Bentley ladies, with Eileen Shadford coming first in 37:56 and Marion Simmons third in 40:23 (PB). Barbara Law was second F65 with am excellent run in 47:32. Clive Thomas clocked 30:57 to take third M50, Kevin James second M60 (36:25) and Graham Clarke third M60 (36:30). Lesley Fuller slashed over 4 minutes off her PB to finish in 41:47 and gain a club bronze standard in her age group. Some GBRC runners entered the inaugural Chelmsford Marathon, held on the same day. Despite some issues with route marking, some impressive times were achieved, with some runners competing in their first marathon. Natalie Stewart ran home in 4:20:40, a PB despite her recent knee injury. Mark Crittendon, running his first marathon, was unfortunate enough to pick up an injury around mile 14, but still managed to finish the course in 5:53:06. Lee Clarkson beat the 4 hours in 3:59:26, as did Chusa Bautista Fructuoso, 3:56:48, her first marathon. Patrick Reynolds clocked 3:37:20, PB by 5 minutes and John Booty took 4:11:53(PB).Bentley runner of the race though had to be Anna Mills, finishing in 3:46:42, taking 34 minutes off her PB.
Debbie Cubberley travelled to the south of the country to run the Eden Project half marathon in Cornwall in 2:13:53.
Almost the entire Presland running family turned out to run the Colchester Parkrun on Saturday morning, with Dad Phil gaining a new PB in 21:59, Mum Vicky 26:58 and daughter Milly 26:54. Other runners were Shawn Leek 25:39, Harrison Leek 25:38, Gary Hill 26:38 and Charlie Keitch 24:32.
