Personal Bests and club standards galore were earned by Great Bentley runners, who turned out in force for the Tiptree 10 mile road race, incorporating Essex Championships on Sunday October 12th. Ladies team Vicky Presland, Samantha Godden (1:13:42) and Steph Horner (1:18:07, PB, gold standard) took second prize, earning themselves silver Essex medals, while Barbara Law once again took the gold medal in her age group in 1:38:57. Presland also gained a Diamond age related standard with her time of 1:11:04. First GBRC man home was Russ Sharp, in 1:02:53 followed a mere 3 seconds later by Ben Ficken in 1:02:56, then Charlie Keitch 1:04:57. Martin Owen slashed 4 minutes off his PB in 1:19:43. Other runners were Darren Horner 1:09:45(PB, bronze standard), Scott Crawley 1:12:17, Paul Carlisle 1:12:37, Phil Presland 1:13:02(PB, bronze standard), Anna Mills 1:18:30, Eileen Shadford 1:18:34, Sophie Apps 1:19:00, (silver standard) Anna Lyon 1:19:18, Lara Townsend 1:22:55, Kieron Hayes 1:25:27, Frank Gardiner 1:28:46, Lesley Fuller 1:29:59(PB, bronze standard), Lex Carlisle 1:29:59, Mark Crittenden 1:34:40, Lynsey Apps 1:35:11 and John McKay 1:39:40. A small contingent of runners travelled to Peterborough the same day for the Perkins Great Eastern Half Marathon. Craig Warriner was first GBRC man home in 1:17:45, PB by over 2 minutes and a gold standard. He was closely followed by Chris Warren in just 1:19:22 (PB). Michael Simmons, expertly paced round to a new PB and gold age related standard by Clive Thomas, finished in 1:27:22. Marion Simmons took over 8 minutes off her PB in 1:56:29, a gold club standard time. Sue Thomas also ran a PB and gained a bronze standard in 2:14:45, Rodger Alexander took 1:36:24(PB, gold standard), Laura Emms 1:51:04 and Natalie Stewart 2:06:07, despite a knee injury at the half way point. Janine Simpson ran the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon in 3 hours and 54 minutes, her 22nd marathon. Caroline Searle and Luke Groves took part in the Royal Parks half marathon and finished in 2:08:10 and 2:21:00 respectively, a PB for Groves. In Parkrun news, Martin Owen, Lynsey Apps and Sophie Apps took park in the Harrow Lodge Parkrun, clocking 26:31, 26:31 and 26:32 respectively. Lynsey Apps was 7 lady overall and first in her age group. At the Colchester Parkrun, a total of 13 Blue Vests ran.
