Great Bentley had runners at both the Pleshey and Ipswich half marathons this weekend, with some excellent results at both events. Training is really paying off as runners are improving their personal bests week after week. Pleshey half marathon was also Essex Championships, and Lex Carlisle won the bronze medal in her age group with a time of 2 hours and 44 seconds, while Barbara Law (2:09:08) took the gold in her age group. Law was also first in her age group overall. Sue Sorrell slashed an incredible 12 minutes of her previous pb, breaking 2 hours in 1:58:32. Charlie Keitch was the first Blue Vest to finish in 1:28:15, followed by Darren Horner 1:30:49(PB) and Kevin Stevens 1:33:25. Ladies captain Vicky Presland ran an outstanding race in 1:34:17, gaining an elusive Diamond age-related club standard to boot. Husband Phil Presland running his debut half marathon finished shortly afterwards in just 1:37:16. Other runners were Paul Carlisle 1:38:43, Steph Horner 1:43:46(PB by 6 minutes), Eileen Shadford 1:43:58, and Kieron Hayes 1:51:47. GBRC ladies only narrowly missed out on third place, coming a solid fourth in the team event.
Meanwhile, at the Larking Gowan Ipswich half marathon, Karen Skene was first Bentley lady to cross the finish line, running a great race over this hilly course in 1:59:22. Craig Warriner was first Bentley man home in 1:21:55, 11th overall.
