Hot Half Marathons

Friday 20th June saw the penultimate race in the Friday 5 series take place at Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds. Simon Dale ran a PB by 11 seconds to come in 7th place taking just 28:25. Michael Simmons finished in 31:12, finally beating teammate Dave Goldsmith, 31:15. Louise Reeve also ran a PB in 49 minutes exactly. Other runners were Mark Ross 34:56, Martin West 41:41, Peter Reeve 50:00, Luke Groves 52:47 and Dave Nugent 58:24.
The Mersea Round the Island race became a half marathon this year, and was run on a hot Sunday by Michael James 2:09, Davina Swindell 2:02, Ben Ficken 1:32:13 and Tom Fowler 1:41:52. Charlie Keitch, Kevin Stevens and Jamie Neill ran the Hackney Half Marathon on the same day in 1:28:48, 1:44:13 and 1:45:21 respectively.
The Great Easton 5 mile race, incorporating Essex Championships saw some excellent results for Bentley runners. Steph Horner ran a PB of 39:50, Tonie Wilson took Bronze in her age group in 41:03 and Barbara Law and Sue McKay won silver and bronze respectively in their age groups, in 47:46 and 54:08. Other runners were Lara Townsend 40:29, and John McKay 47:38. The women’s team are currently lying in second place in the championship standings, Law and McKay 1st and 4th place in the 65+ age group.
Several Blue Vests raced the 3rd leg of the Harwich 5k series. Gary Hill finished in 24:11, Mark Crittendon 26:19, Scott Young 21:25, Brian Telford 22:33, Karen Skene 24:15 and Paul Hollidge 21:02. Hollidge also ran the Gorleston Cliffs Parkrun on Saturday 21st June in 21:53.
In other Parkrun news, Malcolm Jarvis ran his fastest parkrun of the year at Colchester Castle in just 20:40. Scott Young ran 22 :07 and Phil and daughter Milly Presland took 26:57. Kevin James gained a new Parkrun PB in 23:17, as did Karen Reid in 28:15. Other runners were Patrick Reynolds 23:17, Ben Ficken 19:04, Shawn Leek 22:50, Ruth Metcalfe 36:45 and Lyn Foster 27:42.
