Super Sunday Success!

Sunday saw the end of a highly successful week, as Great Bentley RC swept the board at a variety of races over the weekend.
Super Sunday saw three prestigious races held, the 20th Halstead and Essex Marathon, incorporating Essex Championships, Alton Water 5k and 10k races and the Colchester 10k. At the Halstead Marathon, Vicky Presland (3:27:54), Eileen Shadford (3:47:41) and Anna Lyon (4:04:13) took both the first ladies team prize for the race as well as Essex ladies team gold. Presland also won Essex Bronze in her age group and Shadford was fourth in hers. Kieron Hayes ran his first marathon since 1987 in 4:06:41, and Jamie Neill beat his London time to PB in 3:53:09. Mother and daughter Lex and Willow Carlisle ran their debut marathons in 4:50:51 and 4:50:52 while Paul Blackwell ran his 40th marathon in 4:31:5.1. Other runners were Kevin Stevens 3:38:21, Paul Carlisle 3:51:03, Shawn Leek 3:55:06, Natalie Stewart 4:36:25, and John McKay 4:49:03.
At Alton Water, our own Chris Warren took first place in the 10k race overall in just 36:57, an outstanding time over this challenging off road course. Other runners were Ryan Bedingfield 47:30, Karen Skene 49:39 and Michelle Parry 49:48. Chris Hayes finished the 5k event in 30:08 and Scott Young in 23:27. Michael Oates ran the junior 2k event in 10:55.
First man home for Bentley at the Colchester 10k was Darren Horner in 41:18, followed by Mark Ross 42:54. Lynsey Apps beat her 1 hour target in 58:17, expertly paced by Martin Owen. Sue McKay was extremely pleased with her club gold age related standard in 1:03:49. Other runners were Anna Mills 46:19, Davina Swindell 48:52, Steph Horner 48:59, Miriam Mark 50:00, Darren Willey 50:09, Tim Flannery 51:02, Gary Hill 51:50, and Michael Sommerlad 1:15:06.
In Parkrun news, Sophie Apps was first lady at the Harrow Lodge Parkrun in 23 minutes and 45 seconds, while Joe Alexander once again won the Colchester Parkrun in 17:03. Other runners at Colchester were Eric Shaw 26:40, Patrick Reynolds 20:19, Tricia Stacey 24:21, Harrison Leek 26:23, Claire Reynolds 27:33 and Sandra James 32:57.
The Harwich 5k summer series kicked off on a pleasant, still evening on Tuesday 6th May, with a new course starting from the rugby club. 18 Bentley runners took part, times were Claire Reynolds 25.42, Liam Forbes 20.53, Ryan Beddingfield 22.08, Scott Young 21.21, Ray Baggs 19.28, Gary Hill 24.26, Karen Skene 23.49, Maison Urwin 21.13,
