Seven cross country stalwarts travelled to Parliament Hill on Saturday 25th January to take part in the South of England Athletic Association cross country championships. Some brilliant times were clocked on this extremely hilly and challenging course on Hampstead Heath. The weather was bright and sunny for the senior women’s race, but there was still plenty of mud to be found. Lex Carlisle, the only GBRC woman runner, took 51m 24s to complete the 5 mile course. During the senior men’s race, the weather deteriorated as rain and wind set in. As this was the last race of the day, the going was very tough as the previous 9 races had badly churned up the ground, leaving deep mud everywhere. The mens race was 9.3 miles, consisting of 3 laps. Runners were Chris Warren 1:07:26, Ben Ficken 1:09:12, Michael Simmons 1:10:08, Charlie Keitch 1:11:03, Mark Ross 1:22:16 and Paul Carlisle 1:22:32.
On the same day, Malcolm Jarvis and Martin Owen ran the Colchester Castle Parkrun. Jarvis finished in 21m10s, while Owen took 25m30s.
