Ladies Newsletter – June

Hello Ladies

Congratulations again on another very impressive and ‘bumper’month. Personally, I have been finding it hard to run in this unusually warm weather.. I’m never happy! However, there was still a fair smattering of PBs for the rest of you!

Kate and Lex travelled all the way to Yorkshire on 1st to June, to face the Pen-y Ghent fell race challenge. It sounded like a tough but very enjoyable weekend as they navigated their way along the 10k course. They did extremely well finishing 141st and 142nd place respectively.

On Thursday 6th June, 12 ladies headed slightly closer to home for the 2nd Harwich 5k. Vicky P was first Bentley Lady home, followed by Lara, Tricia, Davina, Cherie, Samantha H, Lynsey, Louise and Sandra. There was also success in the children’s race, with Teigan Dale taking 2nd place and Katie and Milly improving their times.

There was also a good representation of Bentley Babes at the Kirton 5 on 7th June. Vicky P led the GB ladies. Not far behind were Karen, Miriam, Marion, Sue T, Amanda and Louise. It is great to see some new names rising to the challenge, pulling out some great performances.

Continuing the ‘series’ season, Tricia was out again , completing the popular Colchester park run in a respectable time. The 5 milers were out again on Friday 14th, this time at Stowmarket. Vicky, Karen and Amanda completed the challenging course in yet again, true style with Vicky winning her age group. Milly and Katie also came first in their age groups. They have been having a busy month!

The Parkrunners were back in action, this time with Karen completing the Ipswich Parkrun, finishing a solid 36th place. Milly, Kate, Sue S and Ruth joined in the Colchester Park run the same weekend, with Milly completing her first 5k in a great time.

Meanwhile, Sam G travelled to the 70.3 Iron man, raising money for SCOPE and putting herself through the tough course of swimming, running and cycling. She finished a very well deserved 18th in her age group.

Completing a very busy weekend was the Harwich Sprint Triathlon, where Vicky P finished 6th woman and 1st in her age group and Anna Mills was not far behind. These are great performances!

Friday 21st June marked the next instalment of the Friday 5 series. This time, Vicky, Karen, Amanda and Louise travelled to Bury St Edmunds, all achieving some impressive times. Milly won her age category again in the children’s race and Katie and Chloe, new to running this year, took 2nd in their age groups.

The Capel 5 was another popular race among the Babes. Anna L, Karen, Janine, Lorna, Nicola T, Amanda and Ruth faced the very warm conditions and undulating course to pick up some great times with Lorna collecting a bronze standard.

On Thursday 27th June, another PB was gained at the third Harwich 5k this time, for the up and coming Louise Reeve. Other ladies showing what they are made of were; Sandra, Rita, Lesley, Lara, Davina and Vicky all finishing in very respectable times.

It really is hard for me to keep these reports so short when you all keep so busy racing and training! I am not complaining, honest! Well done to all of you. This month I have decided to award the Runner of June to Vicky P. She has been working so hard and it is great to see her getting the results she deserves. I would also like to give a special mention to the juniors and Milly for her achievements this month. I am sure they will continue to go from strength to strength. Bravo!

I hope those of you doing Ekiden are looking forward to this Sunday. I certainly am, as you have all clearly been training very hard. Good luck to those of you also doing the Essex Champs. I wonder how long next month’s report will be?…

See you soon!

Stay cool,

Jo
