A little look back,
Here are a few achievements that didn’t quite make it onto the last race report,
Mags our club secretary completed here 200th Parkrun at Highwoods country park that’s 1000k of Parkrunning!
Sarah Evens claimed second lady at the Maldon 5k event with a stunning time of 19mins 51secs
Helene Tyler completed the LDWA Golden 50 walking a distance of 52 miles in 17hrs 25mins
Christopher Thornton became a national champion at the Aquathon which was held at the Water sports centre in Nottingham. He completed the 750m swim and 5k run in 38mins 39secs giving him 1st place in his age group.
Harwich 5k series
The last race of the Harwich 5k series saw two Bentley runners take home some very well deserved silverware .Firstly, we have Ella Harris becoming the overall series winner for women’s category and doing it in a pb time of 26mins 50secs, this is Ella’s second 5k series win of the year as she won our very own Micky Edwards series earlier this year. This is shaping up to be a fantastic year of running for you well done Ella!
Secondly, we have Gary Cooper we all know Gary for his grit and determination, well this got recognised by the organisers of the Harwich 5k series and they awarded him with the Directors Cup. Well done to you both!

Snetterton 10K
From a 5k race on the coastline of Essex, to a 10k run round a racetrack in the wilds of Norfolk. This annual evening time 10k takes place round the famous Snetterton racetrack, Tomasz Komorowski thought he would have a crack at the track. He must have got his treads nicely warmed up on the tarmac beforehand as he went round in a time of 49mins 57secs, a terrific time Tom.
Calderdale Crawl
There’s no stopping Helene Tyler at the moment having already completed one monster LDWA event the following weekend she dragged her sister all the way up to West Yorkshire for another one.
This new course for the LDWA is situated just south of Halifax and consisted of 24 miles of undulating hills, Helene completed this course in a time of 8hrs 1min.

Essex 5k championship
Closer to home now we have the Essex 5k championships which is held at the Colchester Sports park, being local and a championship event it always attracts a large number of spectators which really adds the atmosphere on a warm summers evening. There was some impressive running from the Bentleys that entered the race Charlie Keitch went round in a sub 20 time of 19mins 34secs, Chris smith and Billy Hamilton both smashed their PB’s with times of 19mins 6secs and 17mins 56secs respectively, amazing work gentlemen. However, winning the overall event and securing him the second spot in the great Bentley top 10 fastest times for 5k is Gavin Byrne with a blistering time of 16mins 14secs.

SVP50 (Stour Valley path)
The SVP50 is one of the most picturesque races around taking runners from Sudbury to Manningtree via some of the most beautiful countryside Suffolk and Essex has to offer. The route is as tricky as it is stunning with a lot of tough terrain and hills aplenty this race is not as easy on the legs as it is the eyes. Doug Mcgilivray now back to full fighting form and no stranger to this race took first place in a time of 4hrs 10mins 31secs, extremely well done Doug. Club chairman Paul Davidson also entered the race and came in 10th place with a solid time of 5hrs 11mins.
The SVP50 is actually the second half of a bigger race the SVP100 that starts earlier in the day at Newmarket then works it way down to Sudbury where it picks up the start of the SVP50.
A man who never takes his own advice of avoiding stupidly long races is Rob Dyer who took on the full distance of nearly 64 miles and did so in time of 12hrs 38mins. Rob has sworn never to undertake these stupidly long races again, until the next one that is.

Mayflower 10K
Another runner that swore never to run a certain race again was Mark Crittenden who ran the Mayflower 10k race. He was less than complimentary about the whole thing saying there was not enough direction signs, not enough marshals, a distinct lack of water stations and to cap it all off “it was too bloody hot” oh and the medal was “crap” apparently. I guess this is not a race for anyone to put on their bucket list. All the above said Mark still made it round and did so in respectable time of 1hr 19mins

That’s it from me for this time, hope you enjoyed reading about your fellow runners achievements,
Don’t forget our Geoff Day memorial 5k this Sunday 17th August, registration from 8.15am race starts 9am.
