“WHO LET THE BOGS OUT”

Clacton Park Run- 1st March

I have a huge apology to make to Flynn Eyre particularly as I was Run Director for this event that day!  I forgot to mention Flynn at the beginning of my event speech and therefore would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on achieving his 100th Parkrun milestone and obviously the only way for him to celebrate this achievement was to come first in an incredible time of 18:21. Keeping it in the family, was Dad, James Eyre storming home  3rd with a PB time of 19:32. Well done Team Eyre, and come on spill the beans, what did you have for breakfast??

Tokyo Marathon 2nd March

Bentley runner Gethin Hughes took part in the Tokyo Marathon last Sunday where he described the conditions as a “mini heat wave”. Despite the heat and taking salt chews, 8 gels and electrolytes he completed the race in a very impressive time 4:34:14. Well done Gethin and perhaps you could describe what exactly is Pocari Sweat which you say you took towards the end of the race? Sounds very odd if you ask me!!

Chelmsford 10K 2nd March

Our lovely Ladies Captain Meera Rajoo- Oakley and Leoni Harvey took part in the Chelmsford 10k and what a race they had. It was a cold start to the day which soon turned into a beautiful almost Spring like day. This event offers a 5k,10k or half marathon race and having personally run this in the past I totally agree with Meera the 10k route is not an ideal course as it is very narrow in places however this did not deter Meera completing her fastest 10k time since 2018 of 44:51 and coming in 3rd female place. Leoni also had a great time of 1:02 despite in her own words of being nowhere near race fit but she could not resist the free entry! Well, done Ladies fantastic performance and huge congratulations Meera for that well deserved 3rd Female. I wonder how many of you will have spotted the mistake on the medals! It certainly made our half marathon “controversial wooden medal” look fabulous!

XC- GBRC Hillyfields- 9th March

Despite another well-known race taking place on the same day, it was an excellent result for team GBRC.  It was a very unusual weather phenomenon in that it was not raining, we had a beautiful sunny morning and there was some mud out on the course.!

GBRC Men were 2nd and GBRC Women were joint 3rd which places us joint 2nd in the league with only one more fixture to go. Well done to all you fabulous runners and marshals. It certainly was a fantastic morning.

A special mention must go to the below “Car Park Attendant” who decided to wear a special sweatshirt to assist him in dealing with any potential grumpy participants parking their cars!!

Grizzly 2025! Who Let the Bogs Out – 9th March

Congratulations to all your hardy, crazy Bentley Blues who travelled down to Seaton, Devon for the Grizzly. Whether you completed the Cub all the 20 miles I stand here and take a bow to each one of you. Having done this race myself last year (incidentally it was the worst conditions for 27 years that year!!) I know what it takes to complete this race not just physically but mentally too. Well done guys you all totally smashed it and looking at all the photos you all had a great time (including Donna Harris!) with amazing weather too.
