Busy Blues Battle Bromley and Bash Out Great Relay Times

Whoosh, and another weekend vanishes in April, and another lot of lovely PBs and medals for our Bentley runners!

The weekend had two significant running events on the calendar: The Bromley 10k and the Colchester Road Relays. But that wasn’t the only running taking place, with blue vests also popping up in Manchester, and even Yorkshire!

Parkrun

First off, Saturday’s Parkruns – as usual, there was lot of strong running at local (and not so local – including Poland!) Parkruns. For a full list please check out the consolidated report: GBRC Parkrun Report.

Ultras

Over in Yorkshire, the seemingly never-tired Adam Toyne added to his impressive list of Ultras this year by running 50 miles in 11hrs23. The scenery was as dramatic as his achievement, and I hope he managed to refuel with some proper puddings with his lunch afterwards.

Manchester Marathon

Sticking North of Essex – Paul Smith and Norma Smith ran Manchester Marathon in a stonking 4:15:50, and 4:33:25 respectively. This achievement is made all the more impressive by the fact it was the first time either of them covered this distance! This achievement follows previously great times at the Stowmarket Half – sure signs that this is the start of great summer seasons for the pair.

Little Bromley

Now onto Little Bromley. The 10k race is a local favourite, and with the gorgeous weather (Goldilocks style not too hot not too cold), and forty-six (yes, 46!) Great Bentley Runners took themselves to the start line to run the six and a bit miles through lovely Essex countryside.

Every single runner put in a sterling effort – with special mentions to Charlie, Craig Slocombe, Marion and Hien for their PBs.

Northern Gateway Essex Road Relays

Next, the Essex Road Relays. Three laps of a one mile track in teams of three for the ladies and four for the men. It’s repetitive, but what it lacks in scenery it makes up for in atmosphere, as crowds of supporters line the edges of the track to offer encouragement to the runners.

GBRC teams can be very proud to be placed 25th, 48th, and 53rd in the Ladies Open, and Veteran Men secured 10th, 38th, 40th. We also had one team in Open Men who came home in 19th position.

Great running for Great Bentley

Well done to all the runners who got out and about this weekend – as a club we should be incredibly proud of our wide participation in so many different races and events.
