It has been a long while since I sat here collating racing results, so I might be a bit rusty and I will apologise in advance if I have missed anyone or anything important. There are also a lot of new faces in the club that I have yet to meet in person!
We write a race report once a week, aiming to publish it on a Monday or Tuesday. We use the Facebook pinned post to comment on races and add photos. These are then looked at each week and taken for the report. We will also use parkrun information, so make sure that you add Great Bentley Running Club as your club so that your run can be found. I have had one offer to help out with the race reports. Please do let myself or Magdalena know if you are able to join the rota.
Saturday 24th July was the return date for parkrun and many of you dusted off your barcodes and headed for a 9:00am 5km. In Colchester, we are lucky enough to have two parkruns. At Colchester Castle we had Craig Mitchell running home in 18:37 and Russell Clarke in 24:04. At Highwoods, Paul Connell crossed the line in 19:57, Malcolm Jarvis in 24:46 and Scott Young in 26:17. At Harwich parkrun, Inga Hayden-Cooper ran in 24:09, second female, and Gary Cooper in 32:51. At Clacton Seafront, we had ten runners: Harry Swinbourne 20:03 in a parkrun pb and second home; Mark Jasper 20:04; Ray Baggs 21:28; Brian Telford 25:13; Leoni Harvey 27:26; Catherine Ott 28:32; Emma Welham 34:15; Zoe Reynolds 39:00; Stephen Cartwright 40:19 and Dave Nugent in 43:48. Slightly further afield Martin Owen ran Ipswich parkrun in 27:33 and in Great Notley, Caroline Talbot ran 37:55.
On Sunday, Junior parkrun was back too. This is a 2km fun run and judging from the photos on Facebook from Colchester, all the kids were happy to be back out there running. Albie Welham took part in Clacton junior parkrun and finished in 13:16.
Back to Saturday and this time a slightly longer event. There was a good Bentley Blue turnout at Haughley Park which saw two new club members, Paul Hughes and Scott Brian join Dimitri Lera, Anna Young, Tim Ballard, Rob Dyer, Jon Mann, Frank Gardiner and Magdalena Komorowska take on a 6 hour Medal Chaser event. It was tough and hot and the promised rain never came. The event allowed the runners to chase for the next medal, going for up to 5 medals.
- Medal 1 – 1 Lap – 5.27KM
- Medal 2 – 2 Laps – 10.54KM
- Medal 3 – 4 Laps – Half Marathon
- Medal 4 – 8 Laps – Marathon
- Medal 5 – 9 Laps + Ultra
Tim Ballard came third running 10 laps in 4:43:57; Jon Mann ran 9 laps in 5:11:48; Rob Dyer ran 9 laps in 5:15:42; Magdalena ran 9 laps in 5:29:57; Anna Young ran 8 laps in 5:48:19; Frank Gardiner ran 6 laps in 4:13:36; Paul Hughes ran 5 laps in 2:56:32; Scott Brian ran 4 laps in 2:17:14 and Dimitri Lera ran in a pair and came first completing 9 laps in 6:24:22.
There were some great times seen at Mickey Edwards this week. We do not normally report on Mickey Edwards as we don’t want to accidentally give away the winner of the series!
I look forward to writing many more race reports this year. Happy and safe running everyone!
