More Marathon Mania

As another weekend’s running draws to a close, Shawn Leek begins a mammoth challenge. Running one marathon is no mean feat, let alone seven back to back whilst travelling through seven different counties! Lots of luck on your amazing journey Shawn, see you in London.
As usual Saturday kicked us off with Parkrun, a smattering of blue was out running the orange 5k route. Lee Clarkson crossed the finish line just ahead of Scott Young, 24.17 and 24.28 respectively. Paul Hollidge, keeping his forthcoming marathon legs ticking over with a time of 26.12. Bee Palmer- Barnes finished in 29.10.
Bungay Black Dog Running Club hosted their marathon and half marathon on Sunday. Sam Godden was the only Bentley babe to take on the full distance. The recently reclassified multi-terrain course is a two loop route taking in the scenic Waveney Valley of Suffolk and Norfolk. Godden ran a truly fantastic and inspirational race to come home in 3.39:33. A time which sees her achieve a new PB by twenty minutes, a silver club standard and 9th position in the GBRC top ten all time performance list.
Also racing over the single loop of what is known to be undulating ground was Natalie Stewart 1.56:05 and John Bush 2.15:01
Sunday also saw several members travel to Manchester, where there has been a marathon event held in this city more on than off since 1909. Officially sponsored by Asics, it now boasts to be one of the flattest courses in the world. Kevin Stevens destroyed his previous time to attain a new PB of 3.24:02. Jamie Neill also took a huge slice off for a bronze club standard in 3.38:07(PB). Running her first sub 4 hour marathon and earning herself a silver standard in the process, was Chusa Batista 3.54:52(PB). Team Fuller also maxed out Manchester, crossing the line together in 4.17:05, securing a bronze standard for Lesley. Andy now leads the GBRC Club Championship table for his age category with this time.
