Ladies Newsletter – April

Greetings Ladies,

I apologise for my tardy report! What a bumper month it has been! There are many headline names this month as you all continue going from strength to strength, in races as well as training.

Spring has finally sprung, Bromley and Bentley Structured is back and with the new Sunday ‘technique’ sessions at Stanway School, I’m sure there will be lots more to look forward to.

It all kicked off on Good Friday, with a fair smattering of Bentley Blue at the Sudbury 5. Lyn, Barbara and Emily all achieved good times with Karen, yet again, gaining another PB.  Two days later and gluttons for punishment, Emily and Karen were out again in force at the Braintree 5 with Sue Thomas, Miriam and Lynsey in tow.  Perfect weather conditions also helped some more great performances.

Marathon season officially started with Brighton and brave ladies Janine, Anna L and Anna M rose to the challenge on this warm day.  Janine was home first with a fantastic finish and Anna L should also be pleased with her performance as she fought through the dreaded cramp. As this was Anna Mills’ first marathon, she should be feeling very proud of her time. Will there be another?!

Bentley fans and runners all headed to London for the big VLM.  After almost a year of intense training, Kira, Emily, Karen, Emma and Sue S all had a great run whilst also raising money for charity. Kira was first lady home, with Emily taking yet another PB and it was also a first for Karen and Emma, with Karen taking a much deserved gold standard.

The cherry on the cake was the Bentley residential Thetford relay on 28th April. Mixed teams of cyclists and runners completed a short course near the centre in warm and sunny conditions. There were some impressive performances, some navigation issues and much friendly rivalry and with a close finish, Joe Alexander’s team prevailed. Roll on 2014!

Yet again, it has been a tough decision to nominate the runner of the month, with so much success. However, I am awarding it to marathon veteran ‘Janine’ for a great performance at Brighton and the improvement she has made over this year, all down to hard work. Well done!

If you would still like to get involved in Sunday training at Stanway on 19th May, don’t forget to email Clive. Otherwise, I will see you hopefully at Bromley or Bentley.

Take care out there,

Jo.
