Sunday was the day of popular local event the Essex 20. The 20 mile road race comprises three laps of North East Essex, which means runners get to experience all of those ‘undulations’ in triplicate. Great Bentley Running Club had eight runners taking on the challenging course on a chilly but dry morning…

GBRC members ranged far and wide to get their race action this week, donning their blue vests and representing the club in five English counties … oh and in Tanzania, Africa!

With club members either enjoying the Valentine’s Day cross country fixture or opting to complete training runs on Sunday, race action for this week was restricted to Saturday 13th February.

Yes it was that time again, the South of England Cross Country Championships, this year at Parliament Hill. Used for many XC champs, the churned up mud at Parliament Hill has previously been described as “a scene from a medieval battlefield”. For many the sheer relentlessness of this course makes it a one-in-a-lifetime event: do it once and say “never again”.
