GBRC had runners at both ends of the United Kingdom this week, putting themselves through their paces. First, as always, let’s start with the weekly stalwart that is PARKRUN.
With a total of 287 runners listed under GBRC, 56 ran at a whopping 17 different Parkruns. The furthest afield appears to have been Rob Dyer, who ran all the way over in Copenhagen at Damhusengen Parkrun.
The Davisons tackled Brandon Parkrun, with Paul describing it as a pretty two-lap trail course with a nasty hill, yet he still managed third overall. Another 5k under her belt for Sarah Davison as she works her way back from injury.

Helene Tyler also did some Parkrun tourism at Bury St Edmunds, finishing in a time of 36:58.

We had a number of runners at Great Notley Parkrun with yet another spot of tourism organised by Jon Mann. Make a date in your diaries for the next one Brentwood on 29th June.

Sunday saw the junior parkrun, with Alexander Briggs as GBRC’s sole representative. Well done, Alexander!

The biggest run (or runs) of the week goes to Adam Toyne, who tackled the 400km, 8-day Cape Wrath Ultra through the Scottish Highlands. Adam, as you’d expect, was going great guns until he timed out at checkpoint two on day six. Adam reported a possible stress fracture. Fingers crossed for you, Adam. Amazing effort and hope you are back to full strength soon.

Another hardy athlete, Leoni Harvey, took on the Hokey Cokey Swimrun in Cornwall. Recalling a post from Caroline about the importance of sharing the bad days, Leoni said, “Today I had my first DNF at the Hokey Cokey Swimrun in Cornwall. Not normally one to be defeated, I’ve limped injured to the end of many a race, but the cold, bad kit choices, and brutal waves defeated me today. I knew if I’d attempted the second swim, I’d likely get pulled out with hypothermia. Being sensible sucks!” Fantastic effort, Leoni, and well done for making the hard choices.
On Sunday, Larina Marsh took part in the South Downs Ultra 50k, finishing in 07:52:01. Larina said, “It was a brilliant event, but it was very tough. The weather was a bit too warm but just bearable at 22 degrees. Lots of walking and eating. The views were amazing and Beachy Head was our last hill climb before the finish. Definitely good training for The Lap in September and I also got to run with one of my old running buddies from Tiptree.”

Also in Scotland, we had Fiona Gosling taking part in the LDWA Speyside 100. I couldn’t find any pictures of the event, but I’m sure it was spectacular.
Sarah Blewden ran Hatfield Broad Oak 10k, which, according to the comments, is a lovely route. I need to start making a note of these!

Another fantastic week of running from everyone. Don’t forget, running is the greatest metaphor for life—you get out of it what you put into it. Unless you trip over your own shoelace, then it’s a reminder to double-knot next time.
