Hello everyone, here is the last 2 weeks race report. I hope you all enjoy reading it and my apologies if I have missed anyone or any event. I am still learning!!
Saturday 4th May saw these experienced endurance runners Tim Clifton, Larina Marsh and Andrea Marwick take on the Spring VXV held by Hare & Tortoise. This was a 5,10 or 15 mile fast trail route and obviously they chose the 15 miles completing it 2:51:41. Well done guys a fantastic run for you all.

Sunday 5th May our lovely Ana Lyon took on the Heritage Coast half Marathon finishing in 2:03. This is a particularly hard course which is mainly off road with some sandy trails and undulations along the Coast running past Sizewell B. According to Ana it was a lovely route and beautiful blue skies! Well-done Ana.

Further afield we had Park run tourism where we saw Bee Brent, Mel Parris and Natalie Martin running at Chalkwell Beach which looked like a lovely route. Well done ladies.

The Hollidges and the Greenhams were at Holkham Park run which also looked lovely. The weather looked glorious in your photo.

Halstead Marathon- 12th May
This was a busy and very hot day for GBRC first up we saw our very own “super woman” Magdalena Komorowska completing the Halstead Marathon in an exceptional 3:44:44 but also more impressively this amazing lady received a silver medal in The Essex Championships for her age category and 9th overall female. Now that is truly inspirational and highly deserved. Huge Congratulations and Well-done Mags.

Also running the same marathon was Malcolm Statham who finished in 04:12:06. Another fantastic run Malcolm, very well done. (Apologies I do not have a picture of you)
Colchester 10K (or nearly a 10K!!)- 12th May
There was a sea of blue which matched the colour of the skies in attendance at the Colchester 10k on Sunday 11th May. It was apparently the hottest day of the year so far but that did not stop our runners producing some exceptional times. They are as follows:
Our male runner of the month Gavin Byrne 37:44 Charlie Keitch 38:59 Justin Hayhoe 40:13 Stephen Bullen 40:14 Dave Allen 41:19 Chris Smith 41:25 Adam Robey 43:19 Paul Brazier 44:37 Andrea James43:49 Ben Hughes-Day 45:00 Rob Elliott 48:07 Piers Markwick 49:32 Inga Hayden- Cooper 51:28 Richard Moor 54:28 Andrew Dyer 55:39 Andrea Markwick 55:59 Dave Jones 56:10 Bev Shortley 56:16 Larina Marsh 57:45 Lindsey Allen 57:51 Brian Telford 59:43 Charlotte Hammond 1:00:13 Leoni Harvey 1:01:17 Karen Johnson 1:03:03 Darrin Sadler 1:05:04 Rachel Rodgers 1:07:56 Gary Cooper 1:09:21 Dona Parker- Evans 1:10:20 Rick Robinson 1:12:05 Karen O Grady 1:26:07

The 10k also had its own pacing team again this year with pacers from GBRC, and other local running clubs. Our very own Craig Mitchell led the runners out as the lead bike alongside the rather lovely James Cracknell who I had the pleasure of meeting!

I would like to take this opportunity to say as the 65 min pacer it was an absolute pleasure (despite the heat and having a bad cold!)) pacing at this race. It was so rewarding to encourage and motivate other runners from various clubs across the County to help and watch them achieve their PB’s. What a great day. Well-done Team GBRC.
Test Track 10 (also known as TT10) 18th May
This is a unique opportunity set within the grounds of the Ford Dunton Campus site in Laindon, Essex and to race the areas of the Ford site which is normally prohibited to the general public. The route gives the runners full access to the actual Test track and a complete traffic free race experience. Well, that test track certainly paid off for our Men’s Vice Captain Jon Mann as he completed the race with a PB of 1:03:39. Outstanding running Jon and congratulations on your PB.

Stort 10 mile Race 19th May
Bishops Stortford RC held their annual 5 mile or 10-mile trail race on Sunday and Justin and Kelly Hayhoe took part which saw them running the 10 mile route which takes place on private farmland across the Essex Countryside. Justin finished 10th in 1:13:38 and Kelly finished 83rd in 1:30:44. Well done “Team Hayhoe” fantastic running from you both.

The Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) Ingleborough Trail Marathon
The Dynamic duo Paul Carlisle and Rodger Alexander were in action at this unique race on a very warm Sunday starting and finishing at Clapham in North Yorkshire. The Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) is the Cave, Mountain and Animal Rescue Service in the 3 Peaks and Malham area of the Yorkshire Dales and parts of Lancashire and Cumbria. The Organisation is a Charity, and the team is made up entirely of volunteers.
The route took them along footpaths and tracks seldom used and very steep inclines. Unfortunately for them they discovered 2 days before the race that there were no narrative instructions for the actual run but always have a Rodger to hand as he had plotted the route on a map beforehand!
Note 1: Never leave home without a “Rodger”!
Note 2: If you ever get stuck in a cave in Yorkshire, remember to thank Paul and Rodger for their donations to this Charity!
Well-done Paul and Rodger what a unique race and an amazing achievement.
