LADIES NEWSLETTER – JANUARY 2024

Hi ladies and happy new year! January had been wet and cold but you still got out there to run which is fab to see.

NEWS AND NOTICES

GBRC Half Marathon – Sunday 4th February
Our half marathon is key to the club and so to those who have been able to volunteer: thank you. Mel has sent out marshal / jobs lists – check those so that you know what you are doing. Also don’t forget that we sell cakes at the hall with the proceeds going to charity, so if you can bake, please get that oven on!

NESS Cross Country – 18th February – Final fixture at Hadleigh
You ladies have been more than pulling your weight at NESS this year with solid performances is all races. We are safe in the league, maintaining our position in Pool A. So at this last fixture, let’s relax and have fun. I hope that we have a massive turn out for the Hadleigh hills.

10 Mile Race – 3rd March
It was sad to have to cancel of our annual 10 mile competition against Harwich earlier this month, however we have managed to secure a new date of 3rd March. Please do come and run if you can, every runner counts towards the score and we want to make sure we retain our trophy!

If you don’t fancy running, we will also need marshals so let Tom know if you can volunteer. The run goes from Great Bromley village hall and is a fast course by all accounts.

Road Relays – 7th April – Northern Gateway
We had a great day at the Road Relays last year and I hope that we can enter a good number of teams and have another fun day this year. Lisa and I will be gathering the names of those who want to run in due course, so for now we just want you to save the date.

AGM – 3rd April
The AGM will be on a Wednesday after training, please look out for an email from Mags setting out any vacant committee positions and the process for nominations.

WHAT WE DID

January started with floods and freezing weather, but as the temperature improved so has the running and I was overjoyed to see the squad bag 2nd place at Wix XC.

There were also some hardy souls at the Benfleet 15, and I want to give a special mention to Catherine and Emma who stuck together and completed the course as a team, lovely to see.

Well done to all who have run this month. I think many are now starting training for half marathons or marathons to come in spring, so I will also take the opportunity to say good luck with your training. I hope January has created a solid base for you to work with.

It is always a pleasure seeing what you have all been up to, so do share achievements on Facebook as well as thoughts on races (nice, horrid, well organised, hilly) as these are always helpful for others.

Runner of the month

Our runner of the month is someone who has been on our short list a few times in the past year. She has been improving during 2023 and has started 2024 by running her first marathon! A trail one at that and she looks like she enjoyed it. Super well done to you Andrea Markwick!
