On what was a remarkably calm and still Saturday morning, 45 of you kicked off Remembrance Weekend with parkrun. The club’s full parkrun results can be found here, but highlights include:
- A strong blue turnout at Harwich parkrun, including PBs for Jacob Horton (16:31), Charlie Keitch (18:47) and Jon Mann (19:07). Jacob’s time also put him in the club’s top 10 all-time 5k performances, in position number 4.
- Rob Dyer got a PB of 19:56 at Felixstowe. Those sub 20s are coming thick and fast for him now!
- Dean Pepper got a PB at Alton Water parkrun with a time of 24:24
- Charlotte Hammond was 1st in her age category with a course PB at Markshall parkrun (27:59)
- Further afield, Magdalena Komorowska searched for UFOs at Rendlesham Forest parkrun (24:16) and Stephen Walsh visited Littlehampton Prom parkrun (26:34).

On Remembrance Sunday, there were plenty of local events to choose from, each with a poppy-themed medal.
We had three runners complete the Stebbing 10 mile – Malcolm Statham (1:20:19), Paul Hollidge and Deborah Hollidge (both 1:28:05).
Paul Davison and Kathy Bishop both flew round the Stowmarket Scenic 7, with Paul finishing in 44:05 and Kathy in 54:35. They were also 2nd and 3rd in their age categories respectively.

In Brightlingsea, Hare & Tortoise Running hosted the ‘Remembrance Day 2023’ event, with a choice of 10k, half marathon or marathon distances, or a 6-hour timed event.
The following ladies each completed one lap of the trail course for a ‘10k’ (but actually 6.55 miles!): Caroline Searle (1:10:40), Sammy Cotton (1:18:43), Karen O’Grady (1:36:38) and Yolande Arnold (1:54:34). Seven blues completed two laps for the half marathon distance, including Josh Beaumont taking first place in 1:27:50. Our other runners in the half were Adam Robey (1:57:57), Dan Palmer (2:00:56), Paul Arnold (2:11:03), Mary Bower (2:30:44), Debbie Smith (2:35:57) and Karen Johnson (2:38:05).
The final remembrance-themed race was the ‘ATW Remembrance Runs’ at Debden Airfield. Tonie Wilson was our sole representative at this event, completing the half marathon in 2:02:11.
Congratulations to all who remembered to run and ran to remember!
