Lots of our members made the most of the bank holiday weekend with some parkrun tourism.
- Richard Heath completed Strathclyde parkrun in 32:03
- Kathy Bishop visited Ludlow parkrun (28:05)
- Charlie Keitch finished 6th at Dalby Forest parkrun, his 43rd different parkrun location and gaining a D for his alphabet in the process (19:09)
- Rob Dyer was back in Denmark, and finished 6th at Damhusengen parkrun (20:38)
- Martin and Sammy Cotton ran University of Nottingham parkrun in 27:57 and 31:12 respectively
- Tom Komorowski and Mags Komorowska got up at 5am to make it to Rutland Water parkrun. Tom finished in 22:56 and Mags pushed for 22:01.
- Laura Cook travelled to Land’s End parkrun in Cornwall (33:45)
Back in Essex, new member Jacob Horton flew round South Woodham Ferrers parkrun as first finisher in 17:20, and GBRC took second and third spots at Clacton parkrun with strong runs by Craig Slocombe (18:07) and Gavin Byrne (19:35).
Scott Young celebrated his 300th (parkrun, not birthday!) at Colchester Castle parkrun, which was also carefully engineered to be his 200th parkrun at that location. Run Director Meera made a fuss of him and he celebrated with coffee and cake afterwards.
You can find all of the club’s parkrun results for Saturday here. Don’t forget to post about all of your parkrun milestones and adventures on the ‘pinned’ post in our Facebook group for that month, ideally with a photo so we can all enjoy the change of scenery with you (like this lovely photo of Tom and Mags, which has definitely put Rutland Water parkrun on my ‘must visit’ list!)

Some of you took advantage of the extra day of rest to do the complete opposite and run as far as possible! Adam Robey and Joshua Beaumont took part Hare & Tortoise Running’s ‘Outrun’ event at Layer Marney Tower. The results are still pending, but it looks like Josh completed 31 miles in 5:05:34 in the individual 12 hour event, and Adam completed 13 laps (32.5 miles) in the 12 hour pairs event.
I’m sure a few of us treated ourselves to ice cream at the weekend, but probably not in the same way as Caroline Dyer! Her sweet treat was 6 laps of Haughley Park as part of the Zig Zag Running ‘Run for Ice Cream’ event, running a total distance of 19.7 miles in 3:38:25.
Also on Sunday, Essex Trail Events held the ‘For Horses Four Courses’ run in Shelley, Suffolk. The 9.5 mile route was completed by Scott Young, Paul Hollidge, Debs Hollidge, Peter Benton and Helen Carey, with Debs and Helen and finishing as the first and second females in 1:34:48 and 1:36:14. Claudia Keitch and Gary Howard opted for the 4.5 mile route, and finished 5th and 6th in 45:05 and 45:06, with Claudia also being the second female finisher.
