LADIES NEWSLETTER – JULY 2023

Hi Ladies! Where on earth has the summer gone? Having kept an eye on the race reports it looks like you are still managing to get out there despite not knowing what conditions you will have. Well done on a jubilant July.

News and Notices

Essex Way Relay – 3rd September

We had so much fun last year, so we are going to put teams into the Essex Way Relay again. The current roster looks like this and you will note the cheeky blank space in leg three for the mixed team just waiting for someone to fill it – if you fancy having a go, let Lisa know!

For those signed up, please try to do a recce run. We know that route “improvements” such as replacing stiles with gates have been happening on the Essex Way (and indeed the Stour Valley Path, but that’s not relevant for this) for the last few years so the directions may not be fully up to date and you don’t want to get lost on race day.

Directions for the stages can be found here: https://www.essexway.org.uk/index.php

Awards Night – 16th December

The committee has set the date for this year’s awards night. We will be having the usual format of the Awards party on the Saturday night and then a social run with breakfast (and tidying up after the night before) on Sunday morning.

More info to follow but for now just save the date of 16th December.

Social at Yarmouth parkrun – 19th August

There is a plan to travel to Great Yarmouth for a social morning. In a couple of weeks. This plan originally emerged in the Men’s newsletter, but they claim ladies are also welcome so if you are free, do join. It would be great to have a good number of GBRC tackling the toughest parkrun in the region.

GBRC versus Harwich 10 miler – 7th January

Tom is working hard to arrange our annual competition against Harwich Runners over 10 miles. We hope to hold this on 7th January so pencil it in your diary and get training!

Training

A reminder to continue to fill in the google form if you are coming to sessions. If sessions have no one signed up, they will be cancelled. The poll also helps leaders know what number of runners to expect and potentially to alter their session plans to suit numbers so signing up remains important.

And details of training will always be on our website as well.

Our Ladies Squad

What we did

This month the GBRC ladies ran at our Geoff Day memorial run; the Harwich 5k series (with some excellent improvements); 10ks in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and London Town; loops around a posh school in Ipswich, triathlons; parkruns; trail runs over on the continent as well as here; and runs in Canada!

Wow we did get around in July! An amazing month, well done ladies!

For those who want to catch up on past exploits, the race reports can be found here: https://gbrc.org.uk/category/race-reports/

Runner of the month

For our runner of the month Lisa and I both thought of this lovely lady who joined the club fairly recently. This month she ran the Twilight 10k in Ipswich, achieving a PB; Ran the Holkam 10k in north Norfolk in extremely hot conditions and ran the Norwich City 10k. She also ventured to Brantham to take on that fabulous hill up round and down a housing estate to complete 5 miles.

Congratulations Sarah Blewden – you have had a great month!
