Like in the previous years it is great to see many of the new and existing members taking part in our club’s Micky Edwards handicap series.
Wednesday 3rd May – Baseline race
We had 51 people attending the baseline race on the 3rd May where everyone started together. At the finish line (where Sophia, Caroline and Magdalena stepped in to help me timing & tokens) we saw a familiar sight of Doug (17:18) Joshua (17:21) and Mark J (17:28) racing to the finish line. And as my jolly helpers were getting grips with theirs tasks more and more runners crossed the finish line. First lady home was club ladies’ vice Capitan Lisa (21:09) followed by ladies’ Capitan Meera (23:09) and Bev (24:57). As the sun was getting lower and air was getting chiller all the participants came home safe and sound. A cuppa tea and a biscuit was a great reward for all the hard work that evening. Some solid times were set that day.
Wednesday 17th May – 1st handicap
48 runners attempt the 1st handicap of the series. With the baseline set runners started at the different times based on their previous run (or their best guess of the 5k if they did not set the baseline).
As it is typical with a staggered start the finish line was quiet for some time. But few minutes before 8:00PM a stream of runners came towards us. Once all the runners crossed the line we were impress of how many runners improved their times. There were definitely some hard efforts on that day and many smiling faces at the end.
Top 3 most improved runners are: Barbara Law, Dave Jones, Stewart Baggs
Top 3 fasted male times: Mark Jasper (17:28), Robin Oakley (19:34) and Paul Brazier (20:11)
Top 3 fasted female times: Lisa Briggs (20:44), Magdalena Komorowska (22:39) and Beverly Shortley (24:01)

These races are for any Great Bentley Club members. The more the merrier. It’s a great chance to test yourself on the flat course or catch up with your fellow runners post-race.
These races are not possible without marshals.
